Dear Friend,
Thank you for visiting the Riverside Cemetery website. I have the honor of being the 4th generation President of Riverside Cemetery. Though many aspects of the Jewish community have changed since the beginning of the 20th century, the fundamental purpose of Riverside remains the same; to honor the mitzvah of Jewish burial with all the dignity and respect each person deserves. It is in this spirit that we wish to make your experience when visiting the cemetery, as timely, professional, dignified and comforting as possible.
During the last 3 years, we have completely restored our heritage Italianate home which serves as our offices. As we continue to maintain the more-than-30,000 individual gravesites with individual landscape care, we are continually looking for ways to maintain the sections of the cemetery which, through the changing nature of our Jewish community, have been neglected. To that end, when you visit, you will see areas under renovation — a slow but sure step-by-step process which we expect will keep Riverside the beautiful and unique natural setting established over 100 years ago.
On our website are resources we hope you will find interesting and helpful. Our prayer book, edited by Rabbi Stephen M. Wylen, is available as a downloadable PDF* and contains text for funerals and unveilings, as well as thoughtful writings of meditation. You will also find an interesting explanation of Jewish monument iconography. We are in the process of creating a Rabbi's Corner, where you will find texts of Jewish perspectives on subjects related to the loss of a loved one. You will also find a complete price list as well as information on purchasing gravesites here.
Please feel free to contact me directly with your questions regarding any aspect of our cemetery.
With respect,

Peter A. Blacksberg
President
